Phonics
Phonics refers to a method used to teach children how to read and write.
At Eastburn, we use a systematic programme called Read Write Inc to support the teaching of phonics. All of our staff (teachers and teaching assistants) have been trained to deliver this programme.
Read Write Inc is centred around phonics; teaching children how to blend sounds together to read and segment sounds to in order to write. This whole-school approach enables our children to become confident speakers, fluent readers and able writers.
The children read and write each day, grouped according to their reading level, rather than their year group. This means that children do not struggle because the learning is too difficult or get bored because the learning is too easy.
